The 60s

A nation in absolute transition

Hardly any decade has shaped and changed Germany as much as the 1960s. The Cold War dominated the world, the Wall was erected and divided the country for 40 years. The music of the Beatles conquered the living rooms at home. And with it came a fashion and cultural rebellion among young people. The 60s were a time of upheaval and change in both East and West Germany.

The first man took a step on the moon. Women emancipated themselves and the first student revolts laid the foundation for more freedom and justice. How exciting and decisive the famous 60s were, these pictures describe.
